Allen Jones (1937 – )
Allen Jones was born in Southampton. He studied at Hornsey College of Art, London 1955 - 1969 and from 1959 to 1960 at the Royal College of Art, London. He taught at Croydon College of Art (1961- 63) and Chelsea School of Art, London (1964) and from 1968 - 1970 was a visiting lecturer at Hochschule für Bildende Kunst, Hamburg and at University of South Florida.
Jones’ work has always been concerned with the human figure and although sexual references were apparent in his early paintings, it was while he was living in New York, that he developed his openly erotic imagery of women, making full use of the slick graphic style of American magazines and advertising, for which he is probably best known.
