Wyndham Lewis: Life, Art, War
We are loaning four works from the British Council Collection by Wyndham Lewis to Imperial War Museum North in Manchester, England, for their exhibition Wyndham Lewis: Life, Art, War.
Marking one hundred years since Lewis was first commissioned as an official war artist in 1917, Wyndham Lewis: Life, Art, War comprises more than 160 artworks, books, journals and pamphlets from major public and private, national and international collections and will be IWM's largest visual arts exhibition to date.
Wyndham Lewis: Life, Art, War also marks the 60th anniversary since Lewis' death - a life which encompassed the most violent and chaotic period in human history, Lewis was a radical force in British art and literature. He was the founder of Britain's only true avant-garde movement, Vorticism, but also a highly controversial figure whose ideas, opinions and personality enticed and repelled in equal measure.
