Norman Ackroyd was born in Leeds, Yorkshire; he studied at the local art school and later at the Royal College of Art in London. He has taught at a number of art schools in the United Kingdom and was appointed a Royal Academician in 1991. The subject matter of his work is mostly landscape, atmospherically seen through mists or at the break and end of day.
