Summary

The clay was flattened by hand and paper patterns laid over the surface. The patterns were then impressed using an Indian printing block before the whole was folded into shape. The pieces were then decorated with slip trailing and transfers. Prestell’s ornamentation derives from her interest in women’s fashion of the 19th century – gilt tassels, frills, pleats and ribbons – and to contemporary designers such as Christian Lacroix.
