MATTHEW SMITH
An exhibition centred around the studio collection of the artist given to the Corporation of London in 1974 by Mrs Mary Keane, the artist's heir. Organised by the Barbican Art Gallery and toured by the Arts Council of Great Britain.. This was the first major exhibition of Smith's work since the memorial exhibition held at the Royal Academy of Arts, London in 1960. It contained some 90 paintings, alongside drawings, watercolours, sketchbooks and photographs, A catalogue, with a brief biographical study by Alice Keane and contributions from various other writers including Roald Dahl, Stephen Spender and Cyril Connolly, was published to accompany the exhibition.
