A British Council exhibition.

This exhibition was first shown in Sweden in 2001 as part of the British Design Season. British domestic design creativity was riding high and pioneering design-led companies such as Inflate and SCP had transformed the market, while hitherto traditional firms like Wedgwood were adopting proactive policies towards modern design, and many designers had set themselves up as small-scale manufacturers. These initiatives resulted in some highly imaginative furniture and furnishing. The exhibition curator, Lesley Jackson, grouped the exhibits into themes that define the British creative psyche: stimulation of the senses through minimal and ‘maximal’ colour, texture, pattern and form, ingenuity with materials and wit. This humour, a key ingredient in the eclectic design cocktail of Britain, was celebrated in the semi-ironic titled of the show - Home Sweet Home is an English phrase used to denote the traditional comforts of domestic life. An illustrated catalogue with an introduction by the curator and details on the designers was published by the Crafts Council to accompanied the exhibition; no ISBN number.
