HERBERT READ A BRITISH VISION OF WORLD ART
The exhibition looked at the pioneering work of Sir Herbert Read through the works of art with which he was particularly associated. His recognition of the importance of his contemporaries such as Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore, Paul Nash and Ben Nicholson helped to place the achievement of British artists in a world context, and Read was also the first to champion as astonishingly wide range of European art of the twentieth century. A catalogue, with contributions from Alan Bowness, Judith Collins, Terry Friedman, amongst other, and extracts from Read’s own writings, was published to accompany the show.
