At the invitation of the Ministry of Education, the Council selected the British Section of the International Exhibition of Contemporary Paintings, held in Paris during the UNESCO conference. The selection committee stressed the less academic aspect of British paintings and the exhibition consisted of 60 works by 28 artists, including works by MacBryde, Moore, Paul Nash, Ben Nicholson, Victor Pasmore, Graham Sutherland, and john Tunnard. It was afterwards shown in Lyons.

A bi-lingual (English/French) leaflet, with a preface by Herbert Read, was published to accompany the British section.
