COLOURS OF THE EARTH
This exhibition was selected by Janice Tchalenko and curated by Ann Elliott. The exhibits embraced a wide range of 20th century ceramics, and examined the roots of studio pottery and the development of industrial ceramics from the 1920s to the 1960s. Separate sections included works by studio potters such as Sven Bayer, John Leach and A & J Young; small factory production with pieces by the Dart Pottery and Rob Turner; contemporary industrial ceramic design with pieces by Queensberry Hunt and works design by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi for Thomas China in Germany; artists potters such as Gordon Baldwin, Richard Batterham, Alison Britton and Michael Casson and ceramics as sculpture with works by Antony Gormley, Glenys Barton, Philip Eglin and Gillian Lowndes. A catalogue in magazine format was published to accompany the exhibition, with features by Oliver Watson, Michael Casson and Alison Britton together with brief notes on the artists and a glossary of technical terms.
