6TH INDIAN TRIENNALE
As with the previous Indian Triennale, the work for the British section of this exhibition was made in India. Stephen Cox spent three months in the autumn of 1985 working at the Government College of Sculpture and Architecture, Mahabalipuram, under the aegis of the British Council. During his three months in Mahabalipuram, Cox set up a 'studio' of local craftsmen. The whole project was a successful collaboration, with a diffusion and synthesis of Indian ideas and imagery becoming apparent in the work produced during this time.

Sculpture
A three-dimensional work of art. Such works may be carved, modelled, constructed, or cast. Sculptures can also be described as assemblage, in the round, relief, and made in a huge variety of media. Contemporary practice also includes live elements, as in Gilbert & George 'Living Sculpture' as well as broadcast work, radio or sound sculpture.
