Summary
The work was made by hand on an industrial knitting machine from fine monofilament yarn with small objects, such as sequins, dice, scraps of fabric, shells and stones caught in the web of the knitted yarn. Of the work the artist said ‘I started the pocket idea while studying at the RCA. With the help of a ‘setting-up’ grant from the Crafts Council I bought a Dubied machine, which meant I could develop the idea. I had been working on this for some years and the knitting became hats, shirts, collars, cowls, skirts, etc. A lot of the clothes and accessories were more like jewellery than garments’.
