Summary
Around 1992 Hume began using household gloss on aluminium panels, this led to a much brighter and jazzier palette of colours, reminiscent of glossy advertisements in magazines. Such material was the starting point for the rich variety of images that Hume painted. Monkey belongs to a group of paintings whose images were inspired by 15th-century tapestries on the theme of La Dame à la licorne.
