Summary

Keep Britain Tidy is a British charity dedicated to preventing waste and litter in public places. It was registered as a charity in 1960, but has its roots in the Women's Institute, whose national federation passed a “Keep Britain Tidy” motion in 1954. This poster is from 1963, but it was in 1969 when the movement established its iconic symbol the “Tidyman”. The Tidyman, an image of a stick-figure putting a piece of litter in a wire bin, now appears on most food packaging. It has its offices in Greater Manchester, and remains active in campaigning and education programs nationwide.
