Summary
Function is a high priority in my work and through the making process I am able to form the molten glass into shapes which relate directly to the grip of the hand, resulting in the products which are tactile and user friendly. It is my aim for the pieces I produce to enrich the pleasure of cooking, eating and drinking, and also to enhance people’s daily lives through contact with products that are visually pleasing and have an individual personality.
I make use of the qualities of lead crystal, a very soft and graceful type of glass when molten, to make pieces such as the ‘Fluidity’ carafes and tumblers. Achieving a balance between the natural movement of the hot glass bubble and the restraints applied with tools, I try to capture the essence of how glass behaves in its molten state.
