Functionality plays a key role in my ceramic work and the tableware sets were designed to incorporate inter-changeable objects, such as a bowl, a beaker, and a box with a lid, which also functions as a saucer. The forms of all the pieces are kept as simple and geometric as possible, with references to industrial design and my own personal appreciation of utilitarian form. I draw inspiration from airline meals, school-dinner trays, picnic sets etc.

Industrial chintz transfers are used as surface decoration to achieve dialectic interplay with the simplistic forms and neutral glaze surface. As well as adding a playfulness and individuality to the objects, it’s my way of acknowledging, appreciating and including certain aspects of ‘Englishness’.
