Summary
Crowley heavily grogs her clay with coarse sand to give it a texture resistant to the shock of raku firing. The teapot is hand built with underglaze colour and low fired in a reduction kiln. The teapot is wholly useable with the thumb being the spout and the middle finger lifts off to become the lid.

Raku
A low fired, soft lead and borax glazed ware, originally made for the Japanese tea ceremony. It incorporates a special firing technique.

Reduction
Firing in a kiln where the supply of oxygen can be limited to prevent full combustion taking place. This will produce carbon monoxide which, if hot enough, will take oxygen from the metals present in both clay and glaze to produce effects totally different from those in oxidised firing. Coppers turn red, iron turns to green, and iron pyrites in clay gives a speckled appearance.
