Summary
Untitled (rebagged sand) was made at the invitation of Camden Arts Centre. In the hallway of the centre is a display cabinet where the multiples are exhibited on glass shelves. Clearly Frankland’s work could not be shown thus. Instead it was placed on the floor, leaning slightly against the wall. Almost immediately it took on an anthropomorphic presence of something fat and friendly, patiently waiting for you to finish the task in hand. Like many of Frankland’s pieces – a wall of shimmering gold or the massive 80 tonne Untitled (boulder) at Compton Verney in Warwickshire – Untitled (rebagged sand)just asks to be touched, to be patted and petted. Try to resist, this is a heavyweight.
