Rivers, Roads and Railways is a major new photography workshop project for Myanmar, run by the renowned British photojournalist Hazel Thompson.

Organised as a partnership between the British Council and the Myanmar Photographic Society (MPS), the workshop will be run over 4 days in the city of Yangon, and invites up to 15 budding photographers aged between 18 and 35, to develop their own photographic story of the city. Led by Hazel Thompson, each participant will explore their ideas and develop their professional skills to produce a final project which will showcase the rich and diverse nature of daily life in Myanmar.

Speaking about the project, in advance of travelling to Myanmar, Thompson said:

I am really looking forward to running the social documentary workshop in Yangon and meeting my students.  I want to help develop my students in their photographic careers, helping them find their individual voices as story tellers and improve their skills.  This is my first time to Myanmar, so I am fascinated to learn more about the country and culture first hand and through the eyes of the photographers I will be working with.
