Five ceramic pots designed by artist Laura Aldridge have travelled from Nigeria to be shown at Koppe Astner’s stand at Frieze Art Fair in London this week, where they can be seen on unique plinths covered in eco-printed fabric.
Aldridge commissioned female ceramicists in Giri, Nigeria to make these vessels as part of her Go Woman Go! collaborative project. The artist travelled to Nigeria in September 2015 to participate in workshops with women in Abuja that aimed to strengthen textile, printmaking and ceramic traditions in Nigeria, as part of the UK/Nigeria season in 2015-16.
Go Woman Go! culminates in two public exhibitions in Nigeria in November 2016. The first takes the form of a building wrap with a unique pattern inspired by the textile workshop and the second is an installation of ceramic vessels produced by ceramicists in Giri in a gallery in Abuja called House 33. A limited edition artist’s publication also accompanies the project.
