Graham Fagen’s video and sound installation, The Slave’s Lament, which was commissioned by Scotland + Venice for the Venice Art Biennale in 2015, will be shown at the National Gallery of Jamaica as part of a new exhibition.
We Have Met Before, opening on 22 September, is a group exhibition organised collaboratively by the National Gallery of Jamaica and the British Council.
This exhibition revisits the challenging subject of trans-atlantic slavery and its afterlives in the contemporary world, seen through the eyes of four contemporary artists: Graham Fagen, Joscelyn Gardner, Ingrid Pollard and Leasho Johnson.
Each artist brings a distinctive perspective with work that was created in different locales, different media, and at different points in time.
You can read a special publication, entitled Difficult Coversations (available to download from the British Council Scotland website), that charts the British Council's work in recent years to build relationships between the arts sectors in Scotland and the Caribbean.
