Art Licks is a platform to support and promote the work of emerging young artists, curators, collectives and independent galleries and project spaces in London. They produce a weekly exhibition and events listing, a quarterly printed magazine, and conduct art tours in Hackney, Bermondsey and Peckham. In 2013 Art Licks will launch an annual festival.
In keeping with the values of Art Licks, editor Holly Willats has selected six exhibitions based in emerging young galleries, or as part of exciting experimental initiatives:
Nicole Morris, Same Husband
at Space In Between, London

Nicole Morris’ practice is concerned with how spaces are navigated, with ‘image’ space and with the construction of an image, which are each investigated by creating environments that seek to blur the boundary between filmic space and actual space. In these settings the viewer - as a mobile, visual and sensual agent - activates the work by moving through it.
COSMO’S LEVELS

For this exhibition, artist Leo Fitzmaurice has been invited to produce an intervention within The Sunday Painter gallery space. Utilising Cosmo Kramer’s hypothetical project as initial seed for the shows structure, Fitzmaurice’s work will act as thematic viewfinder with which to approach the works of the other artists. Floor becomes wall, window becomes surface, objects become image and clothes become maps. Slippage between physicalities is the key. Archetypes become comic motifs and back again.

Bruce Ingram, Arrangements

Shaped by Ingram’s interest in the Japanese art form of Ikebana, the exhibition centres around three bodies of work that occupy the threshold between sculpture and collage and present familiar objects in unfamiliar new arrangements.

Guy Gormley's latest exhibition and publication show a series of images taken during a nocturnal walk from the peripheries of South London to the sea over three consecutive nights. Together they build a picture of the artist’s state of mind on this solitary excursion.

Les Urbaines

Les Urbaines is a laboratory for new aesthetics and daring cultural practices, presenting more than 40 projects including performances, installations, exhibitions, theatre, and concerts, which will take place in more than ten venues over three days.
This will feature very significant young British artists: Berry Patten, Hannah Perry, LuckyPDF, and Samuel Levack & Jennifer Lewandowski; and music from Ex-Easter Island Head, Gnod and Hype Williams. The curator of 'Les Urbaines' is Elise Lammer.
