New Religion, an exhibition by Damien Hirst toured in partnership with Paul Stolper Gallery and British Council Visual Arts, opened on 11 November 2016 at the Kasteev Art Museum in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
The exhibition has already been seen by 72,000 people during its Wider Europe tour this year to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia.
New Religion, which was on view from 18 March-27 May 2016, has been hailed as the cultural event of the year in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The show broke audience attendance records at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina: it was seen by 25,000 people in Banjaluka, which, relative to the percentage of the town’s population, this would be similar to 1.3 million people visiting the exhibition in London. The preview of New Religion attracted almost one hundred of the country’s most influential cultural leaders and many people from neighbouring countries travelled to Banjaluka to experience the artwork.
The exhibition has since toured to Macedonia and Serbia. In Museum of Contemporary Arts of Vojvodina in Novi Sad, Serbia, the exhibition also attracted impressive crowds and was seen by over 34,000 visitors.
Damien Hirst: New Religion is on view in Almaty, Kazakhstan until 19 December 2016.
