Summary

This work comes from the book The Oldest Road An Exploration of the Ridgewayfirst published in 1975 by Wildwood House Ltd, with text by J R L Andersen. Uffington White Horse is some 110 metres long and 48.5 metres high and is thought to have been cut around the first century A.D.; local tradition has it that the horse was carved to commemorate one of King Alfred’s victories over the invading Danes.
