This work comes from the book Islands, first published in 1978 by Jonathan Cape, with text by John Fowles. Troytown Maze is situated near St Agnes in the Scilly Isles. Pebble mazes were often found in Scandinavia and it is suggested that they were associated with the tomb and with reincarnation. This particular maze has been recorded for over two hundred years; one local historian suggested that far from being an antiquity it was constructed by a bored lighthouse-keeper.
