Summary
Following a nervous breakdown Hennell was admitted to the Royal Maudsley Hospital, on his discharge he went to live at Orchard Cottage in Ridley in Kent; a country house surrounded by a well tended garden and a fine cherry orchard. Here he devoted himself, with a singleness of purpose, to his art, producing a series of drawings and watercolours which showed a gradually developing mastery of the media.
