Summary
From 1972-77 I cut up, dyed, painted and washed pieces of canvas, which I then sewed together to make paintings. The process of working was at all times apparent, in fact was part of the content. I used the tactile reality of the material as a means to play against illusionistic space which I created with geometric shapes constricting myself by sewing. (11 Biennale de Paris, 1980)

Canvas
A piece of cloth woven from flax, hemp or cotton fibres. The word has generally come to refer to any piece of firm, loosely woven fabric used to paint on. Its surface is typically prepared for painting by priming with a ground.
