Summary
Broken English August ’91 is from Screenportfolio. The print is an extension of a work Gallaccio made for the exhibition ‘Broken English’ held at the Serpentine Gallery in London in 1991. The work comprised a large, shallow tray in which floated some 1000 small photographs of artists, curators and dealers, some known to the artist, others recruited via a curator’s address book. The artist explained that it was a ‘sort of document of a moment in time, a suspended moment’.
