Summary
Blue Painting with Discs: September 1962 was painted for Heron’s solo exhibition held at Galerie Charles Lienhard, Zurich in January 1963. Heron wrote, "Painting has still a continent left to be explored in the direction of colour (and in no other direction) … it seems to me that we still only at the beginning of our discovery and enjoyment of the superbly exciting facts of the world of colour. One reels at the colour possibilities now."

Painting
Work of art made with paint on a surface. Often the surface, also called a support, is a tightly stretched piece of canvas, paper or a wooden panel. Painting involves a wide range of techniques and materials, along with the artist's intellectual concerns effecting the content of a work.
