Summary
Josiah Wedgwood and Sons began their relationship with Ravilious following an introduction from a fellow Royal College student, Cecilia Dunbar Kilburn (later Lady Sempill). The Alphabet mug came into production in 1936. Each letter is paired with an object and presented in two bands around the outside of the mug. The letters Y represented by a yacht and Z by a Zeppelin are inside the mug and, when filled with liquid, the yacht 'sails' on the surface of the drink.
