THE BIRTH OF ART
These etchings which involved the stage by stage eating away of zinc stencil letters, were made at Croydon College of Art with the assistance of students of the Printmaking Department and the co-operation of the staff of the College. There are five sets published nd each set of ten prints is unique since the plates were inked for each stage and five successively paler pulls taken from them. The series terminated when either any of the letters should only consist of a fragment which would disappear if further exposed to the acid, or when the time the plates had spent in the acid should total 60 minutes. In the event these two stages coincided.
