Summary
This seminal psychedelic folk band were renowned for their outlandish ambition use of unusual instruments. Many of these were brought back from Morocco by member Clive Palmer, after an ill-fated attempt to emigrate there. The Incredible String Band released a string of beloved and influential albums in the mid to late 60s, all produced by Joe Boyd, who had also worked with Nick Drake and Fairport Convention. These albums took note from Indian ragas, traditional North African music and Celtic traditional folk. In the words of Jim Powers of All Music Guide, The Incredible String Band “did more than any other act to give the United Kingdom its own distinctive hippie identity”.
