Summary
Playing the guitar was such an obsession for Jimi Hendrix it was one of the chief reasons he was discharged from the US Army. Sgt Louis Hoekstra cited that Hendrix “apparently cannot function while performing duties and thinking about his guitar.” By the time of his early death, he was one of the most celebrated and beloved musicians of the 20th Century, and that is how he remains decades later. As a songwriter, a singer, and a musical experimenter, his style has been an enormous influence on artists as diverse as Prince, Outkast, Queens of the Stone Age and Miles Davis.
