Summary
The Belgian Canal Boat Fund was founded during the First World War to provide food and medical relief to the civilians trapped behind enemy lines in Belgium. It had been hoped to use the country’s canal system as a means of distribution, but this proved impossible. The Fund held various charitable events to raise money and it is likely that Hassall contributed the poster design free of charge.
