Charles Taylor was born in Wolverhampton, West Midlands. He studied at Wolverhampton School of Art and, after an apprenticeship to commercial engravers, at the Royal College of Art, London. He later taught art at Southend. He produced a number of wood cuts, many featuring the flat landscapes of Essex and unspoilt rural areas in the south and east of England.
