Ann Marie Shillto was born in Zambia and studied at Birmingham College of Art and undertook postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art. In 1989 she was made a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. She specialised in designing and making contemporary jewellery in the refractory metals: titanium, niobium and tantalum. The pieces in the collection were cut by CO2 laser and each piece is hand finished and individually resisted and anodised. She described her working methods at the time
