Temple Bar was one of the gateposts into the City of London. Made from Portland Stone and reputedly designed by Christopher Wren, the Temple Bar had a chequered history. In the 19th century was removed for causing traffic obstruction and eventually purchased by Sir Thomas Meux and sited in the grounds of his estate in Enfield. The scene in this poster shows the structure there. The arch has since been restored and resited in Paternoster Square. www.cityoflondon.gov.uk
