Job Nixon (1891 – 1938)
Job Nixon was a native of the Potteries in Staffordshire. At the age of 18 he won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art, London and after World War I studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London and was awarded another scholarship to enter the British School of Engraving in Rome. In all he produced over 75 etchings and drypoints, mostly landscapes and often scenes in France or Italy.

Engraving
An intaglio process whereby lines are cut into a metal or wood plate using an engraving tool (a burin), which is pushed in front of the hand to achieve a sharp controlled incision capable of great delicacy. This technique requires a great deal of control and is not suited to spontaneous mark-making.
