William Evan Charles Morgan (1903 – 1979)
Charles Morgan was a London engraver and drypointer of distinction. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. In 1924 he was awarded the Prix de Rome for engraving. Barely a dozen works are traceable now. The classical figures in his work are inspired by 16th Century German engravers.

Engraving
An intaglio process whereby lines are cut into a metal or wood plate using an engraving tool (a burin), which is pushed in front of the hand to achieve a sharp controlled incision capable of great delicacy. This technique requires a great deal of control and is not suited to spontaneous mark-making.
