Daphne Krinos was born in Athens and studied at Middlesex Polytechnic and the Sir John Cass College, both in London. She trained with Catherine Mannheim, a distinguished and inventive maker and teacher, and her first works were in gold, silver or niobium. The works in the Collection are made from oxidised silver with copper and brass, using cabochon semi-precious stones and resins to provide subtle colours. Her work employs simple organic shapes, sometimes using natural forms such as leaves or petals. Twenty-four carat gold is rolled into black oxidised silver to give a rich texture and bold pattern. In other pieces, flattened gold wire is hammered into the silver or gold leaf applied to the surface.
