Konstantin Grcic was born in Munich. He trained as a cabinet maker at Parnham College, Dorset and later undertook postgraduate studies at the Royal College of Art, London. He worked for a time with Sheridan Oakley at SCP. In 1991 he established his own design practice in Munich. Grcic is the epitome of the designer whose working process departs from ideas rather than function. His work is characterised by openness to possibilities, and draws on his interests and knowledge of the history of art and design. Some of his designs are the result of complex theoretical process, whilst others are a playful, humorous response.
