Lamia studied Visual Communication (Photography and Film) at the American University of Sharjah, UAE before moving to London to complete an MA at Central St Martin's School of Art.

Her work has been shown in the UAE, Canada, the UK, Switzerland, Japan, the Netherlands and, most recently, in Dubai Next at the Vitra Design Museum, Weil Am Rhein, Germany. Her film Wet Tiles won first prize (non-fiction) at the Emirates Film Festival, Abu Dhabi, 2003 and the IBDAA Special Jury's Award, Dubai, 2004. 

Lamya currently lives and works in Dubai where she is represented by the Third Line Gallery.
