Joanna Constantinidis, born 1927 was a pottery artist who trained at the Sheffield College of Art and established a studio in Essex in 1950.

She taught at Essex Institute of Higher Education in Chelmsford from 1951 to 1989 and then took early retirement to spend more time on her own practise.

Part of the ‘new wave’ of potters that emerged in the 1950s and 1960s, Constantinidis explored the production of objects that were both functional and decorative. She experimented with and innovated new methods of throwing, firing and glazing pots and was awarded the Medal of Honour at the international exhibition of ceramic art in Faenza, Italy 1978.

Her works are included in the collections of many institutions such as the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Craft Council Collection.

She died in 2000 aged 73.
