Marcus Coates (1968 – )

In this film we speak to British Artist Marcus Coates about his practice and specifically about his works held in the British Council Collection. 

A new series of photographs by Coates are on show in a major new exhibition for Japan, titled Private Utopia: Contemporary Art from the British Council Collection.

Coates is best known for performative films and photographs in which the he inhabits the minds and bodies of animals of all types, exploring shamanic traditions and working to better understand human nature.
