Michael Challenger is a painter, sculptor and print maker born in Kent in 1939, who moved to London to study at the Goldsmiths’ College of Art and Slade School of Fine Art in the 1960s. He later taught at both institutions.
Challenger is well known for the canvases he produced throughout the 1960s and 70s which are characterized by colourful hallucinatory geometric effects in interior spaces.
He exhibited in the UK, Italy, USA and Germany and his pieces are held by many collections including the V&A and Tate Britain.
