Trevor Allen (1939 – 2008)
Trevor Allen was born in Portsmouth and studied at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts in London. He had his first solo exhibition at London Graphic Arts Associates Gallery in London. He contributed to the BBC series Artists in Print and to The Complete Printmaker published by Nelson in 1975. Of his own work the artist has written "Relief printing is the best means I have found to express my ideas. I enjoy every stage of the prints' development, but most of all cutting the block and the final colour printing. I have always been open to influences from many quarters. I studied under Michael Rothenstein, and worked later with Philip Sutton. Traditional Japanese printmakers like Utamaro and Kunisado have meant much to me, together with strong memories from childhood of books like Herge Adventures of Tin Tin and the Dandy and Beano comics."
