Don Brown was born in Norfolk and studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts and later at the Royal College of Art, both in London. Stephen Murphy studied at St Martin’s School of Art and Goldsmiths College, both in London. In their collaborative work Brown and Murphy have combined their very differing techniques and approaches to create a mystical, futuristic world where the human figure is reduced to the scale of invisibility. The evident filmic quality of their work in the collection is enhanced by the presentation technique: huge Technicolor photographs drymounted on Foamex.
