As the crowning event of Kosice’s reign as European Capital of Culture for 2013, the British Council Collection is now on show in Slovakia.
British Express (Britsky Express), featuring the work of 25 artists including Richard Deacon, Damien Hirst, Rachel Whiteread, Jake & Dinos Chapman, Gillian Wearing and Martin Parr, looks at contemporary art practice post Warhol (whose family were originally from the region) and has been installed in Kosice’s new Kunsthalle, a renovated public swimming baths.
Curator Vladimir Beskid, Artistic Diretor of the Kosice 2013 cultural programme, commented:
The exhibition gives a unique opportunity not only to residents of Košice, but to the whole Slovak public, to get familiar directly with the strong visual scene in the British Isles, and brings a whole list of top names from the international scene and introduces us to the important collecting role of institutions such as the British Council.
The exhibition runs until 26th January 2014.
