Based on exquisite permanent loans from an English private collection, , the exhibition examines the broad network of relations and friendships surrounding Francis Bacon and his art colleagues. The exhibition features works from some of the most prominent British painters of the 20th century: Michael Andrews, Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, Peter Doig, Lucian Freud, Richard Hamilton, David Hockney, Ronald B. Kitaj and Leon Kossoff. Despite stylistic differences all these artists have a similar approach in their figurative efforts. Rejecting abstract tendencies in art, they depict the human figure and its environment in painted portraits, landscapes and cityscapes, thus exerting tremendous influence on the younger generation of painters.
