The artist Grayson Perry travelled to Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina to open his exhibition of tapestries, The Vanity of Small Differences, at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Republika Srpska on 7 September.

Around 400 people attended a talk by Perry on English class, taste and art prior to the opening night of the exhibition, which was packed, with more than 800 visitors.

"For a very long time the Museum of Contemporary Arts of Republika Srpska hasn’t hosted so many people at an event. The tapestries tell a powerful story," Glas Srpske Daily, a local newspaper, reported.

The Vanity of Small Differences is a series of six tapestries that are jointly owned by the British Council Collection and the Arts Council Collection. So far this year, these works have delighted audiences and attracted huge visitor numbers in venues around the Wider Europe region:

  • Izolyatsia Platform for Cultural Initiatives, Kyiv, Ukraine
  • Museum of Contemporary Art Vojvodina, Novi Sad, Serbia
  • National Gallery, Pristina, Kosovo
  • Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
