18-35-year-old East African and British artists, arts organisations and art collectives can now apply to an open call, new Art new Audiences (nAnA) to create new art together and to showcase this art to audiences across East Africa and the UK. Grants of up to £30,000 are available.
This annual open call launched last year by the British Council in East Africa to encourage collaborative cultural projects between artists, arts organisations and collectives from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and the UK. Take a look at funded projects and be inspired by the 2016-17 nAnA grant winners, which included:
- a pop-up hair salon and art installation exploring the politics woven through and straightened out of black hair;
- a project around illustrated storytelling and art (maga)zines/books;
- a forum for exchange between the UK and East African artists, designers, musicians, and thinkers, currently being developed between Glasgow, London, Nairobi and Addis.
